What group is your swimmer in?
I have two swimmers in Blue 2.
How long have your children been swimming?
My girls have been on the team since May 2022, but have enjoyed swimming their entire lives! I enrolled them in 6 learn-to-swim programs before finding success with Dea Ann Joslin's lessons!
What inspired you to join the booster board?
I am a “yes” person, sometimes to a fault! I like to contribute and help others when I can. When approached about being the Treasurer, I thought it would be a great way to get more involved with the team, meet more people, and help contribute to the success of the swimmers!
What's your favorite part of being involved with the team?
I am seeing my children do things I would have never expected at such a young age. They are building skills and confidence. They are setting goals, mapping out what they need to do to achieve them, and accomplishing them! I'm so impressed with the coaches and how they motivate and train these swimmers!
How has swimming positively affected your family?
We love to swim as a family. We go to the Smith River every year. It's a joy to see them jump off cliffs and confidently swim across the river. They are starting to out-swim me, and it's so fun for them to "train" me!
What advice would you give to a new swim family?
If you've never been to a swim meet before, it can seem overwhelming, but the other parents there are willing to help! Introduce yourself and ask questions. It's a supportive community. Older swimmers can help the younger ones navigate the starting blocks, just ask a coach to pair your swimmer up with someone!
What's your favorite Petaluma restaurant?
Oh wow, it's hard to choose just one, but if I had to, it would be Sake 107. The food is such high quality, beautifully presented, and delicious -- and the owner is about as nice and welcoming as can be! But Petaluma is so rich with great restaurants, I could eat at a different one every day for a month and still not hit all my favorites!
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I'm a math teacher at Petaluma High School.
