What group is your swimmer in?
Marisa is in Gold 2.
How long has your child been swimming?
Marisa has been swimming for six years. She started when she was ten with a non-competitive team. She loves to race and started competing when she was twelve.
What inspired you to join the booster board?
I joined the booster board because I wanted to give more to the team. I have always enjoyed volunteering and doing tasks to support my kids' activities. Being a board member allows me to share ideas too.
What's your favorite part of being involved with the team?
I love the family atmosphere of AC Swim Club. The kids have developed some really good relationships.
How has swimming positively affected your family?
There are so many great lessons to be learned from competitive sports. I think the most important things that we have learned through swimming are patience and perseverance. Improvement isn't going to happen overnight. You have to keep showing up. This rings true for just about any new skill.
What advice would you give to a new swim family?
The best advice I would give to a new swim family is to be prepared for anything. Your first swim meet can be an overwhelming experience. Plan for weather extremes at meets, always wear sunscreen, have things to do during down time between events, and: Always. Have. Snacks!
What's your favorite Petaluma restaurant?
Cucina Paradiso is our spot for a night out without kids. Our go-to for a quick family dinner is Acme Burger.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's there weren't many competitive sports opportunities for young girls. I love that our community offers so many different kinds of sports activities for girls!
